Not at all in South Florida, the University of South Florida (USF) is so designated because at the time of its establishment it was the southernmost university in Florida. By enrollment it is one of the largest universities in the state and is one of the three top-tier Florida flagship universities for public research. Student Life

Located in Tampa, many kinds of activities are available to students very near campus. Much like downtown Orlando offers a thriving nightlife to UCF students, Ybor City provides the same in a historic setting in downtown Tampa.

Not far to the west are many excellent gulf beaches.

With some exceptions, freshman at USF are currently required to live on campus.

Athletic teams at USF compete in NCAA Division I, where the Bulls football team is competitive year after year..
