The University of Florida is probably the most prestigious public education institution in Florida. Year after year it is recognized as one of the “public ivies” and has been ranked the number two school in the nation for best buys in education by Kiplinger’s. UF also appears on the Fiske list of the 41 Best Buys of 2014. It is a very large school, with programs in almost any area imaginable.

In addition to being recognized for providing one of the best educations for the buck, the University of Florida is also recognized as having particularly strong programs in certain areas. This is most notable for programs in business, engineering, journalism and law.
Unsurprisingly, it’s UF that has the most academic programs making appearances of all the colleges and universities in Florida on the 2014 Fiske guide for preprofessionals. Their programs that make those lists are in architecture, business, journalism, engineering and film/television.
If you have a 4.0 GPA and scored at least 1400 on the SAT, you will be invited into UF’s honors program. You will be able to attend unique courses with fewer students and have the opportunity to live in the Honors Residential College, smarty pants.

There are all kinds of students at this large university, but they all share the fact that they feel like they are part of a real community and most do a good job of balancing their school work with having a good time.
Life in Gainesville seems to revolve around UF, and there is a decent bar scene and lots of parties, if that’s your thing.
There are several freshwater springs not too far from Gainesville great for tubing and swimming.
For Gators football is a way of life. The universities other team sports are also very successful and have a large following. Additionally the recreation facilities available to students on the UF campus are very good.
At UF Greek life is very popular.
