Planned as a university targeted towards Miami-Dade residents and originally offering only upper division classes, Florida International University (FIU) is now one of the largest universities in Florida. It attracts many students from across the state, country and world. FIU has an excellent reputation, particularly for its many graduate programs.

The FIU student body come from particularly diverse backgrounds. In fact, Diverse Issues in Higher Education has ranked FIU first in granting degrees to minorities.

Student Life

Greek life is very active at FIU, and there are over 30 fraternities and sororities.

The Golden Panthers, FIU’s athletic teams, compete in NCAA Division I competition in the Sun Belt Conference. The major teams tend to become more competitive year after year.

FIU has two fine arts museums.

In the heart of the state’s most populous region, life at FIU also offers tons to do outside of school.

    My name is Sean-Pierre Franklyn and I currently attend The Kingston College High School in Jamaica W.I., where I attained nine (9) subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Examination Council(CSEC). I am now in Grade 12 where I am pursuing the subjects, Mathematics, Communication Studied, Physics and Chemistry at the advance Caribbean Advance Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

    I would like to become an Electrical Engineer, hence, I need to know what is required for admissions to this field of study and what is the duration of such a study.
