Introduction to Southwest Florida

The region the Florida College Guide considers as Southwest Florida spans from the Tampa Bay area’s rural northern outskirts south to the city of Naples. It is a region that offers some of the best that Florida has to offer, including climate, beaches, outdoor activities and shopping, without all the overcrowding.

Tampa and, across the bay, St. Petersburg are the regions big cities. In addition to being the location of the University of South Florida, the Tampa Bay area also houses the MLB team the Rays and the NFL team the Buccaneers.

South of Tampa is Sarasota, home of New College of Florida and an exciting arts scene.

Southwest Florida has the most spectacular sunsets in Florida, which are best appreciated from one of the many fine beaches in the region.

It’s a whole lot worse for students who head to college out of their state. Highly competitive schools or much popular programs of study, additional enrollment requirements may apply. 5 Acceptance Rate: 35% Enrollment Rate: 33%*.
