Originally founded in Michigan in 1988 by Catholic philanthropist and Domino’s Pizza owner and founder Tom Monaghan, Ave Maria University was moved to the town of Ave Maria in Southwest Florida in 2003. It is a private Roman Catholic university with hopes of one day being one of the Catholic Ivies, though there is now much controversy surrounding the university.
